About Weak Brave Light
Weak Brave Light is a collection of recent paintings and illustrations by Toronto-based visual artist, Alexandra Snelgrove. Artistically interested in the prolongation of fleeting moments and memories, Snelgrove's artwork is an intimate re-representation and reconstruction of imperfect, personal snapshots that document both her life and her experiences. Exploring themes of detachment and longing, Weak Brave Light is an artistic preservation of one's fragile, personal history.
Artist Statement
"My work is referenced closely from photographs that I have taken- these photographs are neither extraordinary nor well taken- but they celebrate my memories which, as digital photographs, would have been overlooked or possibly deleted. Aesthetically, I am attracted to the faults of my photographs- sunspots, focus problems, harsh flashes, flares, etc. My artwork communicates feelings of love and loneliness along with my experience of living in the city. I believe that the aforementioned technical imperfections of the photographs that I paint from enhance the themes of detachment and longing that exist in my artwork. "
